Car Auction is a Classic Success at Charterhouse

The Charterhouse auction of classic cars held at Sherborne Castle on Sunday 15th July was a huge success with the sale totaling nearly £170,000.
“This sale saw yet another great entry of classic and vintage motorcars and motorcycles. Top lot of the day was an elegant Mercedes-Benz Pagoda 230 SL. Although needing some remedial work to the paint and featuring a less desirable automatic gearbox, it sold well at just over £19,000.” Commented Matthew Whitney. “However, the one car I would have liked to take home was a 1935 Standard 9. Despite having been barn stored for many years, it was in original condition and delightfully dirty. On the day it nearly double its bottom estimated selling for nearly £2,700.”
Other highlights in this specialist Charterhouse classic car auction were a Mini Van. Having undergone a huge programme of upgrades such as a turbo charger, and having won many concours awards, this 10 year restoration project went to a new home in Bournemouth for nearly £13,500. This was followed by another vehicle which had undergone extensive modifications, this time a Range Rover which was changed into a convertible. Previous owners are believed to have included Freddie Mercury and Roger Taylor, and it sold to a collector of Range Rovers for £9,500.
Charterhouse is now accepting entries for their programme of auctions including Silver, Jewellery & Wine in August, Clocks and Collectors’ items in September and Classic Cars and Motorcycles in November.

Hot Rod Magazine changes for the better!

Well it is officially the first update for July and big things are happening!

I was offered an opportunity by David Freiburger, Head editor of Hot Rod Magazine, to write for the magazine about my Expeditions There will be some never published adventures shown first in Hot Rod, then trickle their way down to the blog.

2012-07-08 14.12.50

But they are on a monthy schedule, this blog might be going to the same schedule, after the magazine comes out I will post a blog. We will see, you can always see what I am doing on my Facebook site, just search for The Automotive Archaeologist on there.

They thought that the Daytona on the Farm story would be a great way to debut the column. So that is what is in the Sept issue. But next month and the next two after that should be completely new adventures.

Let me know if you know anything cool hanging out in the Mid-West or Great Lakes region, I might just come out and see it!

You can pick up Hot Rod at most Auto Parts Stores, Grocery Stores and many other places in between.

SPOTTED: NON-COMPACT DAIHATSU

Another handsome Charmant in town, driven by a mechanic. A stock body, slammed suspension and deep-dish vintage wheels is always a recipe for success when it comes to old Daihatsus like this Charmant.
