Charterhouse Triumph

A 1973 Triumph TR6 is which was last on the road in 1993 has already been entered into the Charterhouse auction of classic cars on Sunday 22nd April.
“It has been entered into the auction from a deceased estate and is only a two owner car having been purchased when it was just two years old.” Commented Matthew Whitney. “It was fully restored in 1992 but has remained in the its garage since 1993 until we recently collected it from amongst the lawn and garden tools!”
This late model fuel injected TR6 with a work hardtop has already sparked interest from collectors and enthusiasts and should have no difficulty in passing its modest estimate of £3,000-5,000.
For more details of this auction or to consign a classic or vintage car, please contact Matthew Whitney, Head of Classic & Vintage Cars at Charterhouse, The Long Street Salerooms, Sherborne, Dorset on 01935 812277, or via email at mw@charterhouse-auctions.co.uk

A Goat and a Dart in the bushes

After fully exploring the 69 Super Bee in the pasture from the previous blog http://carsinbarns.blogspot.com/2012/01/superbee-in-pasture.html, I moved onto a tip from my friend Bob. He had told me that his friend nearby had a few cool old muscle cars stashed away. And to give his friend a call. A quick conversation with the friend and I was granted permission to view the cars! So away I went to see what he had in the bushes.

I pulled up to the house, and I was blown away by what was there. Bob's friend had quite the collection. Some very desirable cars.

How about a 1968 Pontiac GTO convertible 4-speed car. I was blown away by this just sitting out, completely uncovered and exposed to the elements.

Next to the GTO was a early 70's Cutlass. I didn't see any extra holes in the fender for the 442 emblems. So I am fairly sure it wasn't anything crazy. Though you never know, Bob said it was a 442. I need to learn more about GM muscle cars. But it was a good project. I hope someone gets it out of that field and saves the old girl.

In front of them was the most... unique car of the bunch! A 1968 Dodge Dart... that has been left in the dryer too long and shrunk to true compact car size! Perfect for around town. What it looks like is the owner took a 68 Dart 4-door, removed one and a half doors and made a Dart-Lite. I'm not sure if it ever ran or there are any prospects for it. But it was definitely unique!

Across from the parked cars looked like a nice project that was about to be underway. A nice, rough around the edges but still good project, Skylark.

After this fun filled day, it was getting late and time to head home. Was a really nice day for barn find hunting. Wish every day could be like this.

Cars & Coffee - 2/11/12

Who would have thought that such a rainy morning would have produced one of the best shows of the year so far? It certainly didn't hurt that it was Jaguar day, so the featured lot was packed to the gills with E-Types, XKs, XJs, S-Types, and the like. Nor did it hurt that the local Lamborghini dealer had planned a get-together that brought a dozen Gallardos, a Murci or two and a pair of Aventadors. Throw in a mini-reunion of RX-7s and the usual die-hards and the show lot was full before you knew it.

Particularly fun sightings included the black Carrera GT, the special CTS-V Wagon, the old Land Rover and Land Cruiser, the '51 Mercury, Vector, Audi R8 GT, VW Golf R, "Sea Shephard" Rossion, Vintage Morgan racer, Aston Martin Lagonda, Kellison recreation, another Bruce Meyers hot rod, Audi Sport Quattro, and that Sears catalog Allstate Motorcycle.

Of course, it wasn't all good. I guess I'm just too old to appreciate the whole VIP/hella flush Asian car phenomenon. The odd suspension geometry and stretched tires just make me cringe. Like donks, bouncing low-riders and street-bound Trophy trucks - they are more for show than go it seems, totally impractical for the street and an enormous misuse of valuable resources in my book. Like the Rich Evans Mustang and the accompanying spray-on-bed-liner-painted Range Rover, beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder, but as they say, variety is the spice of life and to each his own.
